This year has gone by at an unusual pace for me. Some seasons seemed to have lasted forever, while others raced past me faster than I could see them. It’s been quite the struggle searching for balance in my life, balance between being a wife & mother and building a small photography business from the bottom, up. Here are some thoughts on 2019 & what I hope for in the new year.

I welcomed a daughter in 2019! She is Daniel & I’s 3rd child and she has made our life sweeter in every way. She has brought so much joy and laughter to our home and her birth was the #1 happiest moment of 2019.
Its been beautiful watching my children grow, and my husband and I along with them. Also as they get older I noticed how much they all look alike (Daniel & the kids)!
I guess because the transition from one to two children seemed so seamless, I didn’t expect one more child to change our lives so much. Bringing a third child into the world, in the same year my husband launched his own property management company, and I entered my third year of business was a challenge, but God is faithful. We’ve survived! Although many times we felt like failures, God provided and has seen us through.
I think it’s easy to forget that God is a loving Father. A Father who allows us to struggle sometimes to strengthen us and to mold us. Looking back on 2019, while it didn’t feel like it then, I can now see His hand in those times when I didn’t know what to do, and just pushed on. I have made so many broken prayers in the night, for God to help me, because finding steady, seemed like a never ending journey of failures. I know His help has been the sustaining strength of my every breath & move.
I don’t know what 2020 has in store, but I know I put my trust in the Lord because He has never failed me.

So thankful for my KJ girls! I attended Katelyn Jame’s The Workshop Experience in October 2018, and the girls from the group have been so supportive and helpful along this journey. I don’t know many photographers here in NYC, and sometimes it can feel very lonely not having people to vent to about business. Having the other photographers from the group has been so special to me. Thank you guys!

I got to photograph my daughters newborn session.

I was featured in two fine art wedding blogs, The White Wren & Trendy Bride Magazine. I was also selected to be featured in the 2020 print issue of Calla Press Magazine.

I did a mentor session with Mallory Dawn and it was amazing. One of the best investments I made in my business in 2019!

I invested in more equipment for the business and absolutely love my new lenses.

I upgraded my site in the beginning of the year and absolutely love the new site.

I invested in an educational film photography course!

I spent a lot 2019, and if I’m honest, 2017 & 2018 obsessing over self-imposed deadlines. I took valuable time away from spending with my family to hunch over a desk and over work myself only because I felt so behind in my process of building Writer & Beloved. So silly! That time is gone and I can’t get it back, but I know now, I never want to make that mistake again.

I lost equipment at weddings, through out the course of the season. Bah! Need to have a system for keeping track of my things in the hustle and bustle of the day!

I didn’t take nearly enough photos of my trips to document them, because I was so overwhelmed with the back end business stuff. I wish I had been more in the moment when I traveled for work & with family!

I wish I had blogged my sessions more consistently in 2019. Every time I finished a session or shooting a wedding, I was so excited to share them with all of you, but, life

My hope is to continue to grow and learn. To continue to be artistic and excited about creating art with my lens. I hope to live more in the moment, and to speak up for myself. I want to put into practice all of the education I learned in 2020 and to serve my clients well. I also hope I can connect with some kind photographers in my area and really encourage and help each other. Lastly, I hope to become more intentional and thoughtful in business & in life, leaving my fears behind and being brave as a business owner.

Finally I want to thank you. I want to thank the clients, vendors and friend-ors who have been a apart of Writer & Beloved Photography’s journey so far. I’m so thankful for you and the trust you have put into me. I want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year. Keep my small business in your prayers as we move faithfully forward, trusting and believing for good things, good challenges and a bright future.

Here’s to a new year,
