Hello there, I'm Kassandra the head photographer and owner of Writer & Beloved Photography. I love literature, poetry, cinema, music and art (basically everything I guess? ) I get so wrapped up and inspired by artists and how someone can create such amazing works. It inspires me to be authentic and honest in my own work.

I am a Brooklyn native, a wife, and a mother of three. My ideal afternoon consists of being at home, windows open, as fresh air blows in, I can feel the rumble of little feet running around vibrating through our little apartment while my husband listens to salsa music in our kitchen as he cooks us a delicious meal. I enjoy the small things, the quiet when the kids are napping, the smell of coffee in the morning, the feel of the thin, crinkly pages of my bible. I love simplicity and living by faith.

While I tend to be pretty reserved, and sometimes even awkward, I love meeting new people and learning about your stories and where you're from. Being a photographer takes me on adventures near & far, and I've loved all of the interesting and lovely people I have met so far. I am inspired by my clients and their stories. I love to connect with them and when they trust me I believe that brings about a freedom in my work to capture stunning  & unforgettable images.

Gathering inspiration for my work begins with who I am photographing. My hope is to allow my clients to feel at ease with me in order for me to  draw out true emotions. I want to earn your trust as the photographer so that your images document truth along with beauty.

Since I was very young I always loved pictures. I could stare at old family photos for hours, and loved the way photos preserved memories so vividly. We always had albums around our house growing up; these big heavy books with tiny doorways into our past.

Years later when I became a mother I began to miss the connection I once had with photography when I was younger. When my husband and I moved back to Brooklyn, New York from Phoenix, Arizona, the idea of Writer & Beloved Photography was already pressing on my heart.

I decided to take my passion more seriously, and with the support of my husband Daniel, I opened Writer & Beloved Photography.

For the last three years I've been photographing special moments shared between couples, families and documenting brands and their purpose. While traveling I have gotten to meet wonderful people & create beautiful, artful images full of emotion and truth. Running a small business has its many challenges & its many rewards, my clients & their stories are the overwhelming reward.

I consider myself a natural light photographer.  My direction always keeps light in mind.  I aim to capture naturally lit, film inspired images that depict true emotion.

I want you to remember the way you felt and what you saw with every image, and cherish it for a lifetime.

I approach photography with an artistic perspective.
I am inspired by architecture, music and art. I want to capture photos that tell the story authentically.  The story, the people in the images, the moments- they all matter.

& WHY I LOVE

romantic stories

I met my husband in 2009 through our churches. We quickly became friends.  I thought he was very intelligent & funny,  and I immediately liked how he always kept it real with me. His wit & honesty drew me to him.    One day I casually invited him out to attend a lecture I was going to, that was being given by Elie Wisel.  He kindly informed me that he couldn't make it.  I had no idea that he actually had feelings for me then.  He'd later tell me how frustrated he had been that he had to miss our non-date, but at the same time, thrilled that I had opened that door by inviting him out.  So he in turn invited me out to go see The Screwtape Letters at an off Broadway show.  From the moment the evening started, I felt so nervous! From the moment he picked me up I kept noticing new things about him that I hadn't before, how handsome he was, how nice he smelled, how comfortable & happy I felt whenever he was around.   By the end of the night I knew I liked him.

We were married in 2013 and now live in Brooklyn with our three children, black lab Hiram.

*Our Lab, Hiram passed away in March of this year, 2020, after being in our family for  nearly 14 years. It's been very hard, and I can't get myself to take him off of our little family bio.
